(From the PHILAJAMES Newsletter, Sept -Dec 1987)

PHILAJAMES brought Christmas gifts to 86 students at the Philippine National School for the Blind in Pasay at an evening affair last December 7, 1987. The Association was represented by Prexy Sid Castillo, Secretary Cecile Tolentino, Treasurer Nanette Fernandez, and members Tessie Cadiapa, Romy Mina and Claire Santos. Special guest was Dr. Yoshio Hamaguchi of the Embassy of Japan.

A program prepared by the students showcased their many talents. Among the numbers were folk and modern dances, choral renditions and a vocal solo by the school’s singing champion. Romy Mina, teacher trainee in special education at Tsukuba University from 1985-1986 and a teacher at the school, emceed the program.

Principal Dante Capistrano, in his welcome remarks, traced the links forged by the boarding school with the PHILAJAMES and the Japanese people. The school will soon be inaugurating a building donated by the Japanese government.

Sid Castillo, in behalf of the Association, thanked the students for their warm welcome and the show they had prepared.
