The Philippine Association of the Japanese Government Scholars is a non-stock, non-profit organization of Filipinos who have successfully completed a Monbukagakusho (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, or MEXT) or JSPS Ronpaku (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Dissertation PhD) study program.
It was founded in 1972 as Philippine Association of the Japanese Ministry of Education Scholars, thus the acronym PHILAJAMES.
Since 1954 MEXT's scholarship program has been giving students worldwide a chance to study in Japan’s top universities. To date, over 3,500 Filipino students have received scholarships in one of seven categories: Japanese Studies, Teacher Training, Research, Undergraduate, Specialized Training, College of Technology, and Young Leaders Program.
